ITINERARY

  • DAY 1: Transfers from Arusha, Kilimanjaro and Nairobi airports. For Nairobi transfers, we use Impala Shuttle Service with daily departures from 7:30 am and 2 pm. You’ll also meet with your safari representative for any last-minute questions or formalities.

  • DAY 2: Depart from Arusha at 9 am. We’ll start a two-hour drive to the entrance of Lake Manyara, passing through the town of Mto Wa Mbu, excellent if you need souvenirs. Next, we’ll start our first game drive – look for lions resting in acacia trees and thousands of flamingos resting on the saltwater lake. This park also teems with elephants, hippos, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and the largest baboon troops in Africa. Dinner and overnight in your hotel, lodge or campsite on the top of the Great Rift Valley, offering an eagle-eye view on the whole of Lake Manyara. Dinner and overnight at your hotel, lodge or campsite.

  • DAY 3: After breakfast we’ll be on our way to the Serengeti National Park. We’ll first head to the Seronera area, which attracts herds of animals and families of predators because of the Seronera river. We’ll drive along the river in search of gazelles, topis, ostriches, and possibly predators such as lions and cheetahs. We recommend a stop at the Visitor’s Center to pick up leaflets, maps of the areas, or get a snack. We’ll eat our picnic lunches here under the giant acacia trees. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or campsite in the heart of the Serengeti.

  • DAY 4: This morning we will head out for an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, then back to camp for a late breakfast around 9 am. Next we’ll head to the one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world, Olduvai Gorge. The gorge lies on the site of an ancient lake, covered by thick layers of volcanic ash, which carefully preserved the world’s earliest records of mankind. It was here that Louis and Mary Leakey and their team discovered a multitude of hominid fossils dating back to 1.75 million years ago. You will also have the opportunity to visit the Oldupai Gorge Museum, located on the gorge’s rim. Next on this exciting day is a visit to the Maasai group, a semi-nomadic people who are one of Africa’s best-known ethnic groups. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or campsite.

  • DAY 5: After breakfast we will descend into the Ngorongoro crater floor for a half-day game drive. You will have another opportunity to spot the Big Five, as well as hippos, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, leopards and a rich diversity of birdlife. After a picnic lunch in the park, we will drive you back to your Arusha hotel.
