Experience authentic Nepal daily life in a familial, bucolic village setting. Nuwakot is the historical city of Nepal from where the present Nepal was unified. Homestays allow a deeper cultural experiences and gives you a home away from home.

 

Situated at an altitude of 5250 ft., 47 mi away from the capital city, Nuwakot itself bears historic and cultural importance. Its sights include a seven-story palace and Bhjairabi temple. Prithvi Narayan Shah's unification campaign of Nepal began here. The town offers magnificent views of Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and paddy fields following two rivers, Tadi and Trishuli. Visitors can observe the most popular festivals like Bhairab Jatra and Gai Jatra that take place every April and August.

 

The trip is focused on rural living as part of responsible tourism. You will experience authentic village life and enjoy traditional Nepalese cuisine.

 

In addition to Parvaty, the household includes her husband Narayankaji, her son Shyam and daughter-in-law, all of whom speak English.

 

 

ITINERARY

  • DAY 1: Arrive in Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel or Lalu’s homestay.

  • DAY 2: Sightseeing in Kathmandu, Pashupati, Boudha and Swoyambhu.

  • DAY 3: Drive to Nuwakot (3-4 hours scenic drive). You will visit the Palace of the Royal family and their family goddess in the afternoon.

  • DAY 4: Take a village excursion through the Durbar square area in Nuwakot. Visit the seven-story palace decorated with wooden carvings, the Bhairabi Temple, the other palaces and the museum. After lunch you can go to the Nuwakot hilltop from which you can see the wide paddy field along with the view of two rivers Tadi and Trishuli.

  • DAY 5: Day trip to Suryagadi (3-5 hrs round trip). Suryagadi was the fort during the unification campaign. The wide range of the land terraces can be viewed from here.

  • DAY 6-7: Spend these days participating in daily activities with your host family and enjoying village life. You have the opportunity to work in the kitchen, go to the water tap, visit the local school or temple where villagers worship, harvest crops in the field and more.

  • DAY 8: Drive back to Kathmandu or can extend your tour.

 

Note: This is just a sample itinerary, you can extend the days of your trip as per your availability of time and interest.

 

Note: Meals in the village are of local cuisine and typically include lentil soup, curry, rice, pickles etc. Also available are pasta, momos, chowmein or you can prepare your own foods.
