​Tibet is a land enriched by culture, tradition and steeped religion along the far-flung landscape, aptly named the Roof of the World. This tour begins with a mountain flight across the Himalayas before arriving in Lhasa, the Land of the Lords, and ends at the border of Nepal and Tibet at Zangmu.

 

ITINERARY:

  • DAY 1: You’ll fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa, seeing the Yarlung Tsangpo River, Lake Yamdrok, Kanchenjunga, Makalu Pumori as well as Mount Everest. Upon arrival you’ll meet your Tibetan guide, who will greet you in a traditional way to bring you good luck on your journey. Spend this afternoon and evening acclimating yourself to the high altitude by resting and drinking more water. Overnight in your hotel.

  • DAY 2: Today you’ll take a Lhasa sightseeing tour, including a visit to the Potala Palace (a World Heritage site), which served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas, and the Norbulingka Palace.

  • DAY 3: Continue your tours to the Drepung and Sera monasteries.

  • DAY 4: This morning we’ll take a long sightseeing drive from Lhasa to Gyantse, crossing the Korala and Kambala passes, as well as Lake Yamdrok Tso and the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) River. Overnight in Gyantse.

  • DAY 5: After breakfast visit the Kumbum Stupa and the Phalkar monasteries in Gyantse. After lunch, you’ll embark on a 2 hour drive to Xigatse, the second largest city in Tibet, which you can explore in the evening. Overnight in Xigatse.

  • DAY 6: This morning you’ll visit the Tashilhunpo monastery and the seat of Panchen Lama until his death in 1989. There you’ll see the thanka wall, visible from the north side of the road. If the road conditions are satisfactory, you’ll visit the Sakya monastery, which sits about 16 miles from the main road. It is one of the oldest and most important Bonpo Monasteries in Tibet. Overnight in Lhatse.

  • DAY 7: This morning you’ll embark on another scenic drive of approximately 8 hours. On the way, you’ll see high mountain views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest. Overnight in Nyalam.

  • DAY 8: Early morning drive from Nyalam to Kodari, approximately 2 hours. After completing immigration and custom formalities, drive down hill to Kodari, then to Kathmandu.
