HIGHLIGHTS: Tam Coc, Halong Bay, Hanoi, Mai Chau, Ninh Binh​

 

Explore the North West highlands of Mai Chau and the limestone mountains of Ninh Binh by bike. You’ll encounter Muong and White Thai minorities as guests in their traditional stilt houses. 

 

ITINERARY

• Day 1 - Overland to Mai Chau/bike to Buoc Village (Includes Lunch & Dinner): We’ll depart Hanoi at 8 am and drive to Mai Chau, and along the way get views of mountains, valleys, sugarcane farms and rice paddies. Upon arrival in Mai Chau, we'll have a traditional lunch at a home in Pom Coong, a village of Thai ethnic minority. After lunch, we'll bike on village road to Buoc where we will have dinner and stay overnight in a traditional stilt-house.

• Day 2 - Bike on back road to Mai Chau (Includes Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): We'll have breakfast at the homestay, then start biking on a country road through scenic villages of Thai minority. We will have lunch in a local house in Xo village. After lunch, we'll continue riding back to Pom Coong village. Dinner and overnight in Pom Coong Village.

• Day 3 - Bike/drive to Ninh Binh (Includes Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner): Enjoy breakfast and leisure time to cycle around in the Mai Chau valley or shopping for Thai handmade fabric. Lunch in Mai Chau. After lunch, we’ll drive to Ninh Binh and stop on the way for a ride through the countryside. Overnight in Ninh Binh.

• Day 4 - Bike/sightseeing of “Halong Bay on the rice field”/Drive back to Hanoi (Includes Lunch): We’ll bike from the hotel to Hoa Lu, the first capital of Vietnam dating back to the 8th century, and visit the temples and steps to the top of a mountain for a great view of the Halong Bay on the rice field. After that, we’ll bike through an area of limestone mountains rising from rice paddies. After an hour biking, we’ll reach Tam Coc. Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and then we’ll take a row boat on the river to explore the Halong Bay on the rice paddies. Finally we’ll drive back to Hanoi.
